This Week
Reading: We learned how to pick Just Right books by counting unfamiliar words, by using iPick, and by using our fingers.
Writing: We began Unit 1: Narrative Writing. We launched our unit by writing a summer narrative and creating a list of moments in our lives that invoked strong feelings. We took a Spelling assessment and next week we'll begin working in our Spelling groups.
Math: We started Topic 1: Numeration. We learned the difference between standard form, word form, and expanded form. We also discussed the significance of place value.
Art: We began creating abstract self-portraits by drawing our face from two different perspectives.
Next WeekWriting: We began Unit 1: Narrative Writing. We launched our unit by writing a summer narrative and creating a list of moments in our lives that invoked strong feelings. We took a Spelling assessment and next week we'll begin working in our Spelling groups.

Art: We began creating abstract self-portraits by drawing our face from two different perspectives.
Reading: We will begin Unit 1: Building a Reading Life. Students will identify reading interests, challenges, and resolutions. They will also practice self-monitoring and reading closely.
Writing: We will continue generating, drafting, and elaborating upon our narratives. We will generate topics by thinking of turning points in our lives. We will learn how to elaborate upon our narratives by using sensory details, developing the internal story and actions, and by using dialogue.
Math: We will continue Topic 1: Numeration. We will learn how to model and compare 3 and 4-digit numbers by using models and place-value blocks. Students will also learn how to write 6-digit numbers in expanded form and word form. Finally students will learn how to use ordinal numbers.
Science: We will explore how plants use their parts to meet their basic needs, how they can be classified by their traits, and how their parts help them survive in different environments.
Art: We will continue sharing more about ourselves by creating silhouette self-portraits.
